— Official Rampage: Total Destruction description

Marco is a shark-like monster who made his debut in Rampage: Total Destruction. He is one of the 30 playable monsters (and later 40 playable monsters in the Nintendo Wii version). This is the only Rampage game he has appeared in.

Background[]

Marco is a shark-like monster. Marco drank some Scum Soda and it made him turn into a giant Shark.

Appearance[]

He is a shark-like monster with fins for hands and feet, as well as a jaw full of sharp teeth.

Trivia[]

  • Marco's name is a pun on the popular game, Marco Polo. This references the fact that sharks swim in water, where Marco Polo is usually played.
    • It may also be a reference to Mako sharks.
  • Marco might have been inspired by killer sharks in various movies, including Jaws and its sequels, Deep Blue Sea, Shark Attack, Megalodon, 12 Days of Terror, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus and Shark Night 3D, as well as the kaiju Zigra from the Gamera. He may have also been inspired by the Street Shark series due to his anthropomorphic features.
  • The quotation "You're gonna need a bigger boat!" in his official description is a reference to Jaws, since Marco is an immense shark, much like Jaws' antagonist.
  • Marco is confirmed for Rampage 2 as a tiger shark with an armored head and his appearance in the movie is rumoured to look like the Megalodon's.
  • Marco could have originally been called Bruce, as that was the name of the shark in Jaws due to the studio name for the animatronic used to portray the titular fish. However, it may have been deemed too cliché, as that has been the reasoning for many sharks in popular culture sharing the name Bruce, such as in Finding Nemo.
